John Aram was born in Nottingham, England in 1962. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London and after graduating worked freelance with many of Britain's leading orchestras including the City of Birmingham Symphony, East of England and Northern Ballet orchestra. He has done numerous recordings for Television and radio including collaborations for Columbia Pictures. He has collaborated with many important jazz artists, including Tim Garland, Kenny Wheeler, Scott Stroman, Daniel Humair, Josh Roseman, Léo Tardin and the Rova Quartet.

In 1992 he left the UK to work in Madrid, Spain where he performed in Big Bands and as a soloist. He worked regularly with William Gibbs and collaborated with Steve Taylor.
John has lived in Geneva, Switzerland since 1996 and has continued to develop his playing. He performs regularly with his various groups from the duo with French Pianist Michel Bastet to the Quintet with Strings featuring Tim Garland.

He has a mini Big Band called the Geneva Downtown orchestra that features some of the best, young and upcoming talent from Suisse Romande.

John performs regularly with Swiss musicians such as Stefano Saccon, Léo Tardin, Ilorkestra and is invited to direct Big Bands such as the Uptown Big Band in Bern. He has also performed, notably in Paris, with the Fanfare du Loup.

John is a firm believer in jazz education and is Head of Music at the international School of Geneva and has taught at the Professional Jazz School in Montreux, Switzerland. He regularly does workshops in Big Band and jazz improvisation at both high school and college level and has run a workshop on the music of Duke Ellington at the AMR in Geneva. He is a member of the IAJE and IASJ.

John has a master degree in Arts Education Management, the GRSM (hons) diploma from the Royal Academy of Music as well as the LRAM diploma.
